Brady Shew: Newborn Photography Denver

It’s been so fun watching my business grow and evolve into a place that includes so many new people! A few weeks ago I got a call from a lovely woman, Dora, that used to coordinate weddings.  She and I worked together more than 5 years ago on a wedding but hadn’t been in touch since then.  She was recently re-introduced to me by another friend of mine who is hiring me to do some product photography for a new venture he is involved with.  When Dora found out I was now photographing babies and families she sent my name to her friend, Becky, that just had a new baby.  And just like that, I had a new client!  It really is a small world.  A few days later I met Becky and her adorable family on a beautiful spring morning at their home and was able to capture some very sweet family moments including the star of the show, newborn baby boy, Brady Shew.

Brady’s 3 year old big brother, Andrew, was less interested in the photo shoot and more interested in showing me his car, getting books read to him by daddy, and playing on his slide in the backyard, but I managed to grab a few sweet moments with him too.  I know it might seems by looking at my finished images that photographing babies and children is easy, but I assure you, it is not.  Spend 10 minutes photographing a 3 year old and then see what you think.  ;-)   How do I do it you ask?  I put my camera on continuous mode and keep my finger on the shutter!  Seriously, a child’s expression changes in the blink of an eye.  If I’m too slow, I miss it.  And you can’t “make” a 3 year old (or most small children for that matter) do what you what YOU want them to do.  I have found the better way to approach it is to let them do what they do and shoot fast.

I loved meeting this sweet little family and I’m sure I will be back in a few months once Brady get’s a little bigger for more baby and family photos.  Thank you to the Shew family for inviting me into your home to capture these special memories for you.  I look forward to seeing you all again soon.  And thank you to Dora for passing my name.  And thank you to Brendan for re-introducing me to Dora.  And thank you to the Universe for always providing.  I am a lucky girl.

Denver Family Photography: Henry, 9 months

I am so in love with this wonderful little boy!  I met Henry’s beautiful mom and dad, Ana and Patrick, when they hired me to photograph their wedding several years ago.  I have been with them ever since and I love our relationship!  After the wedding, Ana and I periodically got together to talk and catch up over lunches etc, and when she got pregnant I couldn’t have been happier for her!!   And for myself, because it meant lots more time with one of my very favorite couples photographing their new little family.  I have seen Henry as a baby bump on his gorgeous mama, as a 2 week old newborn, at 3 months, at 6 months, and now, 9 months.  I am feeling a little sad because we only have one more session left in his babies first year collection.  I have said it before, but I will say it again because I feel that strongly about it.  There is NOTHING I love more than meeting a wonderful couple about to embark on the biggest adventure of their lives together (getting married!) and then to be called back when that adventure expands to include children.  I LOVE this family more than words can really express.  They have been such huge fans and supporters of me and my artistic venture as a photographer.  They have trusted me with one of the most important days of their life, their wedding day.  And, they have continued to trust and believe in me as their ongoing family photographer.  I know that this family will be in my life for as long as I am still here.  And I know one day I will be photographing Henry’s senior photos and reminiscing about the day I met him.  It’s hard not to get emotional when I think about what an honor my job is.  Professional photography may be a “luxury” item these days with the economic state of the nation, but while things are tight, babies are growing and growing and growing.  If the moment passes up-captured, it will fade into the memory bank.  But, with my photography I get to freeze time.  I believe that I am creating art that is truly priceless.  If you are thinking about getting your baby photographed, but are thinking about your tightly balanced pocketbook, ask yourself this: “How much will beautiful photographs of my baby be worth to me in five years?  How about 10?  20? 30?”  If you feel like I do about family and children, you will probably agree with me.  Time to book that session!! :-)

Ana, Patrick and Henry, thank you again from the bottom of my heart for being such amazing clients and friends!  I hope you love these images as much as I do!  Henry is becoming such a big boy.  I can’t believe how quickly this year is flying by and I am already looking forward to seeing you again in 3 months! XOXO

Denver Baby Photography: Bruin, 7 months

If you’ve been reading my blog at all recently, you already know I am a little baby crazy.  If not, well…  I am.  :-) It’s a fun place to be for me right now because I get to enjoy ALL of these cutie-pies and freeze their sweetness in time, to be had forever by their happy parents!  My friend Kelly Karli, also a brilliant wedding planner in Colorado at Frosted Pink Weddings, had her precious boy about 7 months ago and between both of our busy schedules, we’ve been talking about doing this shoot together for months!  But, we finally found a morning that worked for us both and had a great time catching up and doing a mini photo-session with her son.  Bruin has got to be one of the cutest baby boys I have ever seen…ever.  Just look at his big blue eyes and chubby cheeks.  He is to die for.  I literally couldn’t get enough of his expressive little face and sweet smiles.  What a little flirt too!  He was making all kinds of googly eyes at me and knew that I was just eating it up.  The more I ate it up, the more he hammed it up!  I think we might be in love.  Shhh…  don’t tell mommy.  ;-)

Kelly, your little man is beyond perfect.  I’m so happy to see you with him.  The love and joy you feel just pours out of you like light.  The same light that is pouring out of little Bruin’s big blue eyes.  I can’t wait to see him grow up and take lots more picture for your family.  This summer: You, your hubby, Bruin, doggies, Wash Park, me and my cameras…let’s do it!!  Big hugs and a huge congratulations once again.  Your son is a little miracle child and you are lucky to have each other.  XOX

Denver Family Photography: The Armitage’s

Jenna and Ryan met me at Ryan’s sister, Lauren’s, wedding last December 31st.  Lauren and Nick and I had such a great connection and they loved their wedding photos so much that they decided to give my photography as a gift to their bother and sister-in-law, and new nephew, Colton.  We met at Riverfront Park a couple of weeks ago and had a blast together capturing some truly memorable and special moments with the Armitage’s right as Colton nears his 1st birthday.  Jenna and Ryan and Colton were all adorably outfit coordinated and armed with balloons and bubble makers (to hopefully keep Colton’s interest).  I have photographed lots of one year old’s and they are active little people!  And, generally not all that interested in doing what you want them to do- ie. smile at the camera.  :-)   Colton wasn’t much different but we were prepared.  And what he loved most was being tossed in the air by daddy.  That trick alone brought a smile to this adorable babies face more times than not.  And I had to be quick on that shutter trigger to catch it.  But what neat images of daddy and Colton, mommy and Colton, Colton alone, and the whole family together!  I love seeing babies grow into their own little personalities and by age one, they usually have a pretty good idea about what they will and won’t put up with.  Colton was awesome and we were able to move around and take photos for almost the entire hour before he was visibly “over it.”

I want to send a big thank you out to Lauren for believing in what I do so much to give it as a gift.  That is a very big compliment and certainly is not going unnoticed.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me another opportunity to create my art with your family.  I can’t wait for you and Nick to get pregnant and have your own little family.  I am so excited that you are going to be near me for this new stage in your lives so that I can capture it every step of the way!
