As we pulled off the main street in Fruita, Colorado and turned on to a remote dirt road, my assistant Bonnie and I were greeted by elegantly hand-written wedding signs that confirmed that we were at the right location for Katie Storm and Kevin Lemas’s wedding. It quickly became apparent as to why the bride and groom had chosen their family’s property for their outdoor wedding. In addition to feeling warm and welcomed by the beautiful pond, gorgeous trees, and vibrant sunflowers, the family’s friendly dogs were among the first to say hello.
Katie and Kevin chose to host their celebration with what I would call an elegantly casual Colorado wedding style. As this couple loves the outdoors, they used wildflowers and natural elements to convey their priorities of love, family and friends. With wedding colors of blue, purple, yellow and red, the outdoor ceremony site was vibrant and created a warm atmosphere for the touching non-denominational service.
Berna B’s Catering from Grand Junction served local beers, spirits and organic produce to approximately 200 guests that evening. High Altitude Entertainment performed as the live DJ and had the young and older guests using their dance shoes! As a special twist, during the mother/son and father/daughter dances, the DJ asked for all of the other mothers, sons, fathers and daughters to join in and add to the family dance celebration. The idea came from the couple as they wanted their guests to be included and made to feel special during their day. The beautiful September Colorado wedding was a joyous celebration for the beginning of Katie and Kevin’s lives together.
Katie and Kevin met for the first time in Boulder, Colorado. They coincidentally saw each other at several concerts following their first introduction, began dating and going to live shows together. Katie is a Colorado native and Kevin is originally from California. They both love hiking, camping, biking, skiing & pretty much anything to do with the outdoors in Colorado. The groom works in welding and metal fabrication and builds custom furniture and wall art. The bride recently finished graduate school and has started a new career as a genetic counselor.
Katie and Kevin are genuinely in love with each other and their families. It was a pleasure to photograph their special day in Fruita, that was filled with love, family, friends and joy!
