City Park, Denver Engagement: Katherine and Michael

Photographing my couples engagement sessions at the exact spot they actually got engaged is always a special treat!  Katherine and Michael got engaged at City Park on a bench with a gorgeous view of the lake, the boat house, and with the city scape on the skyline.  We thought it would be an ideal place to take their engagement photos.  As the story goes, right after Michael asked Katherine to be his wife, a huge flock of geese flew over their heads, as if on cue.  It was so fun to be there with them both and get to relive that special moment with them.  And true to form, the geese made a presence as well.  :-)  Katherine and Micheal brought their cruiser bikes with them, so we were able to use them as props as well as get some fun images of them riding together around the lake.

Their wedding date is set for next weekend, June 15th, 2013 at the Four Seasons Resort in Vail and I couldn’t be more excited about it!  They have over 200 guests and an extremely large wedding party too.  I’m told it is going to be quite the party with amazing details, a fantastic band (Funkiphino-one of my personal favorites!), and lots of dancing.  Their ceremony is going to be on the island on the golf course  and their are lots of special surprises in store.  I have my team ready to go and it’s sure to be one of the highlights of the season.  Given the easy and wonderful connection that Katherine and Micheal and I had at the engagement session, I know that photographing them on their extra-special day is going to be amazing.  A big thank you to their wedding coordinator, JoAnn Moore (Mountains and Meadows), for recommending me to this fantastic couple!  I can’t wait to work with your team on what is sure to be an extraordinary wedding…coming soon.

Allison & Eric: Engagement Photos in Denver

More often than not my couples ask me for suggestions on the best locations for engagement photos, which I am more than happy to give them.  Luckily, we live in an amazing city with lots of options so it’s usually pretty easy to find a spot that fits their particular personalities and life-style.  I like to suggest that we take the photos someplace that has special meaning to them, whether that is someplace they like to spend time together, or perhaps the place they got engaged, if appropriate and local.  Aside from that, I also have favorite places that have worked well for me in the past.  If a couple is looking for an urban landscape, I usually suggest Riverfront Park in lower downtown Denver, where within a short walk there are bridges, benches, interesting architecture, a river, stone steps and walls, as well as some natural landscaping options with trees, grass and flowers.  I also like photographing in Civic Center Park in upper downtown where there are large stone pillars, interesting statues, and art installations.

On the other hand, if a couple is looking for a more rural setting, there are lots of favorite locations to choose from.  My top three favorites are probably Red Rocks in Morrison, Standley Lake Park in Arvada, and Chataqua Park in Boulder.   I have recently found a great spot in Golden called Clear Creek History Park that has lots of cool old barns and cabins that work wonderfully as backdrops.

That said, I am always game for a new location too.  At the end of the day, the engagement photos are going to be more about the couple and their love and energy together than the location anyway.  And while it certainly doesn’t hurt anything to have great backdrops, I tend to shoot primarily with long lenses which focus on the expressions and emotions of the couple while throwing background details out of focus.

Allison and Eric live in the city and wanted an urban location for their engagement photos since their wedding is going to be in Estes Park where we will be working with a mountain setting.  We choose to meet at Riverfront park, but instead of the usual loop around the park that I do with people, we went in a different direction and found lots of great new spots to use.  Truly, we are lucky to live in such a beautiful city!  I can basically walk around any block in the city and depending on the time of day and the light find interesting and unique places to take photos.  I am so excited for Allison and Eric’s wedding this coming October at Taharaa Mountain Resort.  I will be working with one of my favorite coordinators, Ann Marlin, from Cloud 9 Weddings & Papers, and given the beautiful venue, I know it’s going to be one for the books!  A big thank you to Allison and Eric for choosing me to capture their special day and to Ann for recommending me.  I can’t wait!

Engagement Photography in Denver: Johanna & John Michael

I am absolutely taken with this engagement session that I photographed at Riverfront Park in downtown Denver a few weeks ago.  Johanna and John Michael are getting married this Saturday, March 30th, at the Brown Palace Hotel, and I could not be more excited about it.  We had a  fantastic time together taking their engagement photos and I have no doubt that their wedding will be equally as special. Right off the bat, it’s easy to see that they are both strikingly good looking.  But even more than that, their darling personalities and charming dispositions made them so much fun to be around and to work with.  I love it when my clients are so easy going and relaxed in front of the lens with me.  It makes posing and directing them almost effortless.  As we walked around the park looking for cool backdrops, we chatted easily about how they met and what they do and by the time we were done, we were like old friends hugging goodbye.  Their love and energy was totally contagious and I feel like it shines through in the images we created together.

My wedding line up this year is chalk full of darling couples like this and I feel so lucky to have so many clients placing their trust in my abilities to capture such a special and unforgettable occasion in their lives.  I can say without hesitation that I have one of the best jobs in the world and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.  It’s couples like Johanna and John Michael that drive my passion to create and inspire, and I am eternally grateful that I have landed in the position I am in. Thank you Johanna and John Michael!  I can’t wait to spend one of the most important days of your life with you in just a couple of days.  I look forward to a life-long friendship full of beautiful moments frozen in time for now and always.

Caitlin and Dan: Denver Engagement Photography

I always love photographing a fun engagement session, and it certainly doesn’t hurt when the bride and groom are totally adorable! Caitlin and Dan did an amazing job being relaxed, in love and comfortable for my camera. The natural light and fall colors were simply beautiful as we walked around Denver. I was sure to snap some photos as Caitlin and Dan jumped from rock to rock together, hand in hand.

I’m so excited to not only photograph their engagement session, but their Denver winter wedding as well! Caitlin and Dan will be getting married at the Montview Presbyterian Church in Denver in January, with the reception taking place at the Ritz-Carlton Denver. I know it’s going to be an amazing ceremony and party with a cocktail hour and flowers from the Newberry Brother’s Florist and Greenhouse. Thank you so much Caitlin & Dan for choosing me to be your photographer! Can’t wait for your big day in January!
