Santa Barbara Dreamin’: Shauna & David’s Wedding at Four Seasons Resort, The Biltmore

Do you believe that everything happens for a reason?  I do!  Here’s one reason why:  About seven years ago I met a fabulous brunette (Shauna) in some random airport (we can’t really remember which one) as I was coming home from an amazing photography workshop in Bend, OR.  I had been inspired that week to find renewed creativity through setting up photo shoots with models, just to “play.”  It turned out that she was seated next to me on the plane and we immediately started talking.  We were like long lost friends talking and laughing all the way home as we found that we actually had a lot in common.  Among which, we had both lived in Santa Barbara (she for longer than me), and that while I was going to the Brooks Institute of Photography, she was modeling for some of the students there at the same time.  By the time the flight landed in Denver we had exchanged numbers and were already talking about doing some shoots together just for fun….which we did.  The photos were gorgeous and I used them in my portfolio for years.  I always remembered her fondly, though we did not stay in touch.

Fast forward to about 8 or 9 months ago.  Shauna was engaged and shopping for wedding dresses at the Little White Dress Shop where she saw my name on the preferred photographer list there and remembered me!  We set up a meeting where I was able to meet her gorgeous and incredibly sweet fiance, David.  We had the same instantaneous connection that we did seven years ago and they immediately signed a contract with me for their destination wedding on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 (for good luck!) in Santa Barbara at The Four Seasons Resort, Biltmore Hotel.

It was so special being back in the place that fired my artistic passions in the first place-Santa Barbara!  It felt like my career had finally come full circle.  I remember being on the same beach in front of the Biltmore when I was first getting started as a wedding photographer dreaming about “some day” photographing an amazing wedding there.  I guess dreams do come true… We had an fantastic engagement shoot on the beach right before the wedding rehearsal.  Then it was on to the Santa Barbara Yacht Club (a restaurant Shauna had worked at for four years while she was in school and always dreamed of having her wedding at) for the rehearsal dinner; a delicious Mexican buffet, complete with churros.  YUM!

The wedding day was a dream come true with absolutely perfect weather and two of the most gorgeous subjects my lens has ever laid it’s glass on: Shauna and David!  Their energy was contagious and everyone had the most amazing time together.  From the model couple, to the gorgeous wedding party, to the delicious CA light, to the intimate and sweet ceremony, to the vintage romantic dinner set up family style, to the belly dancer, to the rocking DJ… it was one of the most fantastic wedding days I have ever been lucky enough to be a part of.  I had a blast getting to know their family and friends and by the end of the weekend, I knew I would stay fast friends with Shauna and David, except this time, for life!

Major props to Lindsey Hartsough, the executive Event Producer at Magnolia Event Design & co-maid of Honor to Shauna, for planning a flawless and gorgeous wedding while also being IN it.  I hope that I am able to work with you and your team again in the future.  You are amazing!

To Shuana and David, I wish you a lifetime of spontaneous dance parties in your living room; all the happiness in the world; and the same kind of friendship, adventure, trust and inspiration that you have for each other today multiplied by each and every day of your lives together.  THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for including me in a wedding I will never, ever, ever, forget… for as long as I live.

And lastly, to the brides brother, Chris:  thanks for becoming my new buddy.  You are super fun!

Engagement Photography Boulder: Stephanie and Sean

I am always a huge fan of taking engagement photos in Boulder, Colorado!  It’s one of my favorite towns on earth and I am probably more than a little biased since I went to CU and had more fun than should probably be legal for several years in my late teens and early twenties.  I also love it when couples come to me with fun ideas for their session, which this couple was full of.  Stephanie and Sean live in New York but wanted to do their engagement session in Boulder because that is where they first met.  They had their first date at the Boulder Theater and so that was one location they definitely wanted to take photos in front of.  And even better than that, they had the staff put up a special Billboard just for them! “Coming Soon Stephanie and Sean June 22, 2014″  Stephanie found the idea on Pintrest and wanted to use it for their save the date.  They had three locations in mind for our photo outing.  The first was Boulder Theater.  From there we went into a funky little chandelier shop that they had found while wandering around Pearl Street the day before.  It was so cool inside and a perfect spot for engagement photos.  And especially appropriate for them as I’m told that Stephanie has a bit of an obsession with chandeliers.  :-)  From there we went to Chataqua park for some sweet outdoorsy images with a dramatic flatiorn backdrop.  It couldn’t have been a more perfect day and the spots they choose  worked out brilliantly.

Thank you so much to both Stephanie and Sean for being so wonderful to work with.  Your energy is beautiful and your love for each other very apparent.  I would LOVE to come to NY to photograph your wedding!  Just say the word, and I’m there.  Congratulations again and I hope to see you again next year!!

Red Rocks Engagment Photography: Stephanie and Jud

If you follow my blog, you already know that I am a huge dog lover and that I love to include dogs in photo shoots whenever possible!  When Stephanie and Jud told me they wanted to do engagement photos somewhere in a natural setting where their furry kiddos could be involved I suggested Red Rocks as one option.  This magnificent park has backdrop options for days and it’s one of my favorite places to take engagement photos in the Denver-Metro area.

Steph and Jud are getting married on Sept. 1st, 2013 at the Botanic Gardens and are both huge fans of the beautiful outdoors.  They are both avid hikers, bikers, skiers, rafters, travelers, and adventure seekers in general.  They have already visited Costa Rica, Italy, Switzerland, France, Peru, Ecuador, Canada, and most of the US together.  On their bucket list is Iceland, New Zealand and Japan.  Stephanie tells me that Judd is an incredibly talented gardener and has completely customized their backyard to include a vegetable garden.  Knowing all of that, an engagement session at Red Rocks turned out to be the perfect combination of natural and majestic beauty to frame them with.

Stephanie and I hit it off immediately when we met to discuss wedding photography and I knew based on her description of him that Jud was going to be adorable too. They are both very sweet and easy-going, laid back and Colorado friendly.  In a nutshell another perfect fit for both each other and for me!  As my business continues to evolve I have found that most of the people that hire me are people that I would naturally be friends with, which makes photographing them both easy and fun!

Thanks to both Steph and Jud for being so wonderful to work with!  I look forward to getting to know them both better in the next months and years to come.  Your wedding is going to be amazing!

City Park, Denver Engagement: Katherine and Michael

Photographing my couples engagement sessions at the exact spot they actually got engaged is always a special treat!  Katherine and Michael got engaged at City Park on a bench with a gorgeous view of the lake, the boat house, and with the city scape on the skyline.  We thought it would be an ideal place to take their engagement photos.  As the story goes, right after Michael asked Katherine to be his wife, a huge flock of geese flew over their heads, as if on cue.  It was so fun to be there with them both and get to relive that special moment with them.  And true to form, the geese made a presence as well.  :-)  Katherine and Micheal brought their cruiser bikes with them, so we were able to use them as props as well as get some fun images of them riding together around the lake.

Their wedding date is set for next weekend, June 15th, 2013 at the Four Seasons Resort in Vail and I couldn’t be more excited about it!  They have over 200 guests and an extremely large wedding party too.  I’m told it is going to be quite the party with amazing details, a fantastic band (Funkiphino-one of my personal favorites!), and lots of dancing.  Their ceremony is going to be on the island on the golf course  and their are lots of special surprises in store.  I have my team ready to go and it’s sure to be one of the highlights of the season.  Given the easy and wonderful connection that Katherine and Micheal and I had at the engagement session, I know that photographing them on their extra-special day is going to be amazing.  A big thank you to their wedding coordinator, JoAnn Moore (Mountains and Meadows), for recommending me to this fantastic couple!  I can’t wait to work with your team on what is sure to be an extraordinary wedding…coming soon.
