Denver Baby Photography & Surprise Proposal!

I am a BIG fan of surprises, big or small!  When I was asked to help figure out a way to photograph Willie proposing to Elizabeth, I was immediately on board.  However I knew we were going to have to be clever about it, since Elizabeth wasn’t going to be an easy one to get something of this proportion past easily.  One thing we knew she wouldn’t question was a photo shoot for their adorable little son, Lincoln, who was 8 months old.  I told her at his 5 month session that I should probably come back in about three months to photograph him again, so that was how we played it off.  Willie was so cute when he answered the door that morning all dressed up and nervous/excited.  His hands were practically shaking, but he wanted to do it “right away” before she started suspecting anything about his nerves.  So I said hello to everyone and told them I was going to get setup (as usual) and I heard him ask Elizabeth to please come out back with him for a minute so he could talk to her about something.  Since her mother & her best friend were also there, she didn’t suspect anything out of the ordinary.  She told us afterwards that she just thought he wanted to tell her something without her Mom or her friends hearing.  She followed him out the back door and I quickly placed myself in the window in as nondescript a way as possible.  I saw Willie gesture for her to sit, and then as he got down on one knee and pulled out a shiny red ring box, I saw her eyes go wide and the tears immediately well up in her beautiful blue eyes.  That was my cue!  I stared snapping away through the glass, and when I knew the moment of shock had properly sunk in, I slid quietly out the glass door to get a few different angles.  It was one of the sweetest moments I have ever been privy to, and my very first proposal to ever witness & capture.  I felt giddy for them both as could feel my own face heating up with the excitement and joy there were both so obviously feeling.  What a fun memory that I will carry with me and that they will now have forever.  But let’s not forget about Lincoln!  That little cutie pie was not JUST an excuse, we certainly gave him his fare share of love and camera time that day too.  And though he was a little tired and also teething, he doesn’t really have to try very hard to be cute. A surprise proposal and a cute baby, all in one session…  who could ask for more?  Congrats Elizabeth and Willie!  I can’t wait for your wedding next summer!

Westin Beaver Creek Wedding: Molly & Marc Delight

I am a firm believer in “sourcing.”  Getting grounded, connecting to the earth, being present, and attracting the things I want into my life are all things I consciously work on.  The best place on earth that I have found to do this kind of spirit work is in the Colorado Rocky Mountains!  Somehow the Universe knew that in order for me to survive my action packed wedding season this year, it was going to be necessary to get me to those mountains over and over again.  Apparently the lack of snowfall last winter left me needing a little more mountain time this summer.  And while I did complain (loudly) about that, you won’t hear me begrudging the summer drive to and from Beaver Creek nearly every wedding weekend since the beginning of June.  This year I booked more Colorado mountain weddings than any wedding season prior and I have loved every single one of them!  Molly and Marc’s wedding was beyond incredible!  Not only was I photographing at a fab venue, The Westin in Beaver Creek, this couple knocked my socks off with their playful spirits and their fierce love for each 0ther, for their families, for each other’s families, and last but not least, me!  I felt like I have known this couple, and Molly especially, my entire life.  Perhaps is was the way she interacted with her sister and darling niece that reminded me of my relationship with my sister and niece? Or maybe it was just her warm and welcoming charm that reminded me of a long lost soul-sister?  Regardless, I had a blast sharing this gorgeous wedding day and capturing some truly priceless moments that I know they are going to treasure for the rest of their lives.  There is no way you can look at these images and not feel what they were feeling.  I just love that!  The lighthearted and totally complete love and joy they had bursting out of their smiles was written all over their faces from start to finish.  And truly, the energy in their passionate kisses practically jumps off the screen at you!  There is nothing I love seeing or photographing more then that.   And I can’t fail to mention that this is one couple that definitely knows how to GET DOWN with their bad selves!

I also had the pleasure of working with another coordinator that I thoroughly enjoy, Carolyn Moorman and her top-notch assistant, Kay, from Artisan Events.  Ladies your work is flawless!  Funkiphino, one of my favorite local bands, rocked the house with their killer musical talents.  And Rich Vossler, a friend and colleague, shot his heart out right next to me and grabbed some absolutely stunning captures as well. Thank you so much Rich! And THANK YOU to all of the above and also to anyone I didn’t mention. It was an unforgettable day with an even more unforgettable couple.  I feel like I am the luckiest photographer in the state.  I absolutely could not ask for more lovely clients than what I have had over and over again this year.  I’m telling you, that sourcing stuff WORKS.

Colorado Mountain Wedding Spectacular: Kelly & Connor say “I Do!”

It’s true, I am sincerely blessed in my life and in my work, especially this wonderful summer of 2012.  The clients that have hired me to photograph their weddings this year have all been beyond wonderful to work with, and Kelly & Connor and their loving families were certainly no exception.  Kelly was as beautiful and graceful a bride as any photographer could ever hope for, and her darling groom, Connor, was the epitome of genuine and love-struck.  Besides that, it was an absolutely perfect summer day and the photo ops both inside and outside were not lacking in any degree.  Kelly’s doll-like, porcelain complexion and Connor’s bright eyes full of love and admiration left nothing to be desired from my perspective.  Never mind the perfect weather, the brilliant backdrop at the top of Beaver Creek mountain, or the incredibly gracious and classy group of guests and family members, numbering close to 300.  That said, it was a big day and a huge weekend for me. All I could do was keep my camera pointed in the direction of beauty and joy and click away to my heart’s content.

When Kelly and Connor booked me for their wedding it had a lot to do with the fact that Connor is a professional photographer himself and loved and wanted my style of photography, specifically me.  While a wonderful compliment, I have to be honest, there was also more pressure to perform my A-game. Not that I don’t always have high expectations of myself & my work, but it is a little different knowing that a trained eye would be critiquing the end result.  Good thing I generally do best under pressure!  Ha!  As a trained and educated professional, it’s a different thing to be appreciated by another creative and talented photographer, which Connor certainly is!

JoAnn Moore and her lovely assistant, Mindy, from Mountains and Meadows were there every step of the way, coordinating flawlessly, as always.  Sarah Fischer was my wonderful second photographer, and I just love everything about working with her.  Our energy combined is not “double,” but instead exponentially greater!  Thank you so much to EVERYONE that helped produce this fantastic celebration.  I am absolutely honored to have been a part of such a magnificent and magical day.  Thank you first and foremost to Kelly and Connor & their families, to JoAnn and Mindy,  to Sarah, to Spruce Saddle, Vintage Magnolia, and last but not least, the Jakarta Band.  It was truly a team effort and from my point of view, we all pulled it off flawlessly.  I only hope the couple and their families agree.  Much love and all the best for your future Kelly and Connor!  I hope to see you both again soon.  Let’s go skiing together this winter! :-)

Beaver Creek Wedding: Megan & Darren oh-so-in-Love

I had such a blast at this wedding with Megan and Darren and both of their incredibly sweet and gracious families.  From the moment I started communicating with Megan and her mother Mimi I knew I was going to love them!  They booked me with some of the nicest compliments on my work that I can remember getting.  And since they were planning the wedding from out of state/out of the country, we didn’t actually meet in person until a couple of months before hand.  But as soon as we were in the same room together I knew that all of my instincts about them were right!  From the moment I laid eyes on them, I could feel their genuine goodness and warmth of spirit just pouring off of them like light.  And as if they weren’t sweet enough all on their own, Mimi brought me the most delicious true Belgium dark chocolate I have ever tasted!  How she knew the way straight to my heart I’ll never know-ha!

Besides the wonderful couple and their great families, I also had the pleasure of working with one of my favorite coordinators in Colorado!  JoAnn Moore and her fabulous assistant, Mindy, from Mountains and Meadows are always an absolute joy to work with and so much fun to be around on a wedding day!  I was lucky enough to have my strong and steady second shooter and studio manager, Julia Timmer, shooting along next to me all day and after having an incredibly hard time narrowing it down, I think the images we took together are some of our best work to date.  More than anything, the credit goes to Megan and Darren for the look of love they had on their faces all day long.  It’s really easy to take gorgeous photos of beautiful people as in love with each other as Megan and Darren clearly are.  Take a look for yourself and see!

With a beautiful traditional ceremony at the Vail Chapel and a smashing reception for nearly 300 guests at the Park Hyatt, I was not at a disadvantage in location either.  Photographing around the Vail & Beaver Creek Villages is one of my favorite parts about the mountain weddings in Colorado!  Thank you to all of the wonderful vendors who helped make this day so special including Rose Petals for the beautiful floral, and the Wyane Foster Band for such a rocking good dance party.  Megan, you will forever be my cute-as-a-button bride.  Julie and I couldn’t stop saying that about you all day long. :-) And Darren, you were as gracious and classy a groom as I’ve ever met.  You two truly deserve all the best the world has to offer.  Please don’t be strangers!  Congrats again and thank you so much for the honor.
