Devil’s Thumb Ranch engagement: Next week I will be sharing one of my most favorite Devil’s Thumb weddings ever! YAY! I figured it would be appropriate in the meantime to share their engagement photos first. Ha! (I never said that I was going to get the blog up to date in chronological order did I?? Oh good!)
Sani and Tyler came to me as total strangers about a year ago based on referrals from 4 totally unrelated sources (cool!). As I am getting ready to share their engagement photos taken at Devil’s Thumb Ranch, in Tabernash, CO, I can’t help thinking about how lucky I am to have made so many beautiful friendships as a result of being a wedding photographer. Sani and Tyler are another one of those special couples. We have been out to dinner, out for happy hours, even out to a fashion show and have been continuing to make regular dates since the day of this engagement shoot.
It’s important for me to connect with my clients and I am generally pretty good at helping couples to feel comfortable being themselves around me. Sometimes that initial connection morphs into a real life friendship beyond the client/photographer one. Whenever this happens it gives me a sense that I am where I am supposed to be, doing what I am supposed to be doing. The friends I have been collecting along the way are truly some of the most special friendships I have.
Sani & Tyler have known each other since high school! Tyler was a junior and Sani was a sophomore and they met in math class. They started dating in their late 20’s and have been together ever since. They both love to travel, scuba dive, ski and enjoy the Colorado outdoors whenever possible. Sani runs her own company as a social media strategist and Tyler works in real estate development. They have a darling home in the highlands where they live with their dog, Chico, and the cat that recently adopted them, Reggie. They are a fabulous couple and have welcomed me into their world with open arms.
They originally thought it would be fun to take engagement photos cross country skiing, which I was game for, but in the end we decided to skip the skiing and just play outside in the snow at the end of the session. I’m glad we did it that way! And I’m glad we got to include their dog into the session too. The look I got out of Chico when mom and dad hung the sign around his neck is priceless. There seems to be a trend towards pets with signs around their necks this year! HA! Besides a great time and a great photo shoot, I also was able to enjoy my very first guest experience at Devil’s Thumb. I have photographed a handful of weddings there, but I had never actually stayed at the lodge before. It was fantastic! From the delicious food, to the rustic yet fabulous accommodations, to the scenery, to the staff… It was a 5 star stay in my book!
Thank you again to Sani and Tyler for being so wonderful and for making my job so much fun! I know we will be friends for years and years to come. And, a big thank you to all of the people that nudged them my way in the first place.
Check back next week to see their wedding feature. 🙂
