When it comes to the types of wedding photography styles, I find that there tend to be two types of couples. There are those who have looked through all of the wedding magazines and websites. They’ve got a Pinterest board ready to go with all of their favorite wedding photo backgrounds and couples’ photoshoot style. On the other hand, there is the other half who are just out there searching for the best wedding photographer nearby and are hoping to get some professional photography tips.
Feeling like you might be part of the latter half? I hear you! When I meet with new couples who aren’t sure what their dream wedding photo album looks like yet, I start by looking at some examples with them. We chat about creative wedding photos of the bride and groom, then look through wedding group photos. We discuss how the wedding photo shoot works then look at the options for their specific wedding venue. Whether it is an outdoor wedding venue in the Rocky Mountains or a swanky downtown Denver reception hall, it’s key to plan ahead.
Sometimes brides and grooms have a clear idea of the posed photos that they like; which is great but is only a small part of the picture. While the best wedding photos are often romantic shots of the couple and posed pictures of the wedding party, there is a whole other side: candid wedding photography.
I love to show my clients this candid pic of the bride at a wedding in Crooked Willow Farms in Larkspur, Colorado. It is such a special moment, just between the girls, and it’s a perfect example of candid photography at its best.
