Engagement Photography in Colorado: Kristina and Sean

I am thrilled to share these gorgeous fall engagement photos that I took in Eldora, Colorado with another couple I couldn’t be more excited about.  Kristina, the beautiful bride-to-be, & I met several years ago while working with one of my favorite wedding coordinators, Ann Marlin, from Cloud 9 (weddings and papers). Ann and I go way back, both personally and professionally, and she always has the most darling girls working with her.  Kristina is certainly no exception.  And, as one of Ann’s main assistants for the last several years, I know that Kristina has seen and met nearly all of the best wedding photographers in Colorado.  The fact that she choose me to be hers is truly one of the most wonderful compliments I could ask for.

It worked out that Kristina and her gorgeous fiance, Sean, were able to take advantage of the weekend I had open in Eldora, where my families cabin is located, to do their engagement session.  We are making a signature book of these images to be used as a guest book at her wedding, so we did an extended version of an engagement shoot allowing for several different outfit changes and taking advantage of several different locations around Eldora- all with absolutely stunning fall colors.

I love that they brought their CO state sweatshirts and their fly-fishing rods to include a little bit of their personalities as well.  They are Colorado kids though and through, with a love for the outdoors, and appreciation of the mountains, and a love for fishing together.  We couldn’t have picked a more appropriate backdrop.  I’m pretty sure that after our session, Kristina and Sean actually went fly-fishing too.  :-) I love a pretty girl that isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty.  That’s my kind of chic indeed.  And Sean isn’t just tall and handsome (though he clearly is both things), he’s a perfect match for Kristina in both kindness and attitude as well.  It only took me an instant to understand their connection and unconditional love for each other.  I literally cannot WAIT for their wedding day!

CU Engagement Session: Alyson & Jason (& Frank)

This particular bride had me at hello!  Literally. I remember meeting with her and having a really easy connection right off the bat and how within seconds we were chatting casually about some of the things we have in common…  being CU grads, avid skiers, Colorado lovers in general, and travel junkies in general.  She and her fiance, Jason, met attending CU in Boulder and started dating their senior year in 2008.  Jason proposed in Keystone, CO in 2012 while they were having a romantic ski day together.  I suggested that we do their engagement session in Boulder on the CU campus, where they first met and fell in love, and that was exactly what she had in mind also.  I absolutely LOVE the CU campus.  And it’s not just because I am a biased alumni.  That campus has some of the most beautiful old buildings and bridges and benches and locations to die for everywhere you turn.

When Jason stepped out of the car on the hill across the street from campus holding their new golden retriever puppy, Frank, I was instantly in love…  with ALL of them.  Golden Retrievers are one of my most favorite dog breeds in the whole wide world and Frank was about as cute a puppy as I have ever seen.  Jason was tall and handsome and immediately warm and easy-going.  Alyson was exactly how I remembered her too.  Gorgeous.  Funny.  Sweet.  Like an old friend.  One of my favorite things about my job is working with clients that I almost feel like I have known forever.  It’s a weird fact about my business, but really and truly, it happens a LOT.

Alyson and Jason are getting married in Vail, CO this summer and I absolutely cannot wait to see them again.  I know we are going to have an amazing time taking wedding photos and if their engagement photos are any indication of how beautiful they are going to be…  well…  my portfolio is about to expand in a major way. :-)

Thank you so much for choosing me for your big day!  I sincerely hope to follow you through all the important moments in your life & be your photographer for life.

Fall Engagements in Colorado: Gabby and Mike

Considering we are slinking ever-so-slowly into winter this year, it doesn’t seem so inappropriate to post a few of the fall engagement sessions I photographed this year.  :-)   Eldora is one of my favorite mountain towns in the whole wide world.  Not only do does my family history there go back to the early 1900′s, but I consider myself incredibly lucky to have grown up there, spending thousands of weekends as a child with my parents and sisters.  It’s also where I lived for my last semester at CU, and where my heart immediately goes to whenever I consider spending a weekend “away.”  The fall the colors this year were as spectacular as ever and I invited several couples I will be photographing weddings for next year to meet me there for a session instead of the go-to locations around Denver metro that I usually utilize for engagement sessions.  I had two couples take me up on it and both sessions were incredible!

Gabby and Mike, the first, are getting married in just over a month at the Kevin Taylor Opera House on January 19th, 2013.  Heather Allen from Table 6 Productions will be coordinating and designing the wedding and was also how this couple came to find our about me and my work.  I am so appreciative of the relationships I have with so many outstanding wedding industry professional in Colorado.  A glowing recommendation from many of them is as good as a wedding booked.  Thank you Heather! I can’t wait to work with you.  Thank you also to the darling couple for being so flexible and for making the trek to Eldora to enjoy the beauty of fall in our glorious mountains.  I am so thrilled to start my 2013 wedding season with you.  Photographing your engagement session gave me a great insight into both of your personalities and the easy and sweet love that you have for each other.  I hope to be in your lives capturing all the important times still to come.

Regan & Jack: Beaver Creek Engagement Photography

I am very much a “gut-feeling” kind of girl, and in most cases it is a wonderful sixth sense to have fairly well sharpened.  Especially in my line of work, it is important that there is a connection between myself and the person/people I am photographing.  After about 10 years of photographing couples, I have realized that the connection I am able to feel is the key to it all.  It’s the thing that inspires me to create beautiful images brimming with love and joy, beauty and happiness.  Obviously given a beautiful backdrop, like the top of Beaver Creek Mountain, it’s hard to go wrong, no matter what.  But that said, a beautiful backdrop can’t make up for a missing connection, no matter how spectacular.  Given the glowing energy between Regan and Jack combined with the nearly instant connection I felt with the couple upon meeting them face to face, we were absolutely golden!  The images are to die for…

Also, I am in LOVE with their love story and I already can’t wait for their big day, set to take place on the Beaver Creek Wedding Deck with the reception at Beano’s Cabin; two of my favorite Colorado wedding venues.  Regan and Jack’s parents have been long-time family friends. However, Regan and Jack didn’t meet until Mar’11 when they went to brunch together with their families in NYC.  Regan was living/working there and Jack was in San Diego at the time. They also connected instantly, did the long distance dating for a year and then their love couldn’t keep them apart any longer. Regan moved to San Diego in Jan’12 and says she definitely considers it home now.  Both Regan and Jack are just over the moon about having their wedding in gorgeous Colorado, smack dab in the center of the country, where families & friends from both coasts can meet in the middle to celebrate.

Every time I meet a couple as in love with each other as Regan and Jack are, I know I am on the right track with my photography career.  I can’t imagine a more fulfilling experience for my work than to capture that genuine love, freeze it in time, for beautiful couples to have and look back on f0r a lifetime.  My sixth sense tells me these two are the real deal.  And when I look at the photos today I can already see them together in 50 years and beyond.  That “look” is what I look for at every engagement session and I didn’t have to look far with these two.  Regan and Jack, you are both totally darling and being around you left me with warm fuzzies for the rest of the weekend.  Your wedding is going to be one for the record books and I am honored you have chosen me to document it.  Thank you for the bottom of my heart.
