This January I had a unique opportunity to photograph a wedding at a venue that was new to me. After almost 10 years as a wedding photographer in Denver, it’s rare that I find myself in that situation anymore. I’ve been to lots of theater show’s at the Opera House and have eaten at Kevin Taylor’s restaurant before, but I didn’t realize that it was also used to host weddings on occasion. Gabby and Mike were prepared for a winter wonderland in January, but instead it was a bright sunny day with nearly 65 degree weather! I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we didn’t mind a bit. Given that the wedding and reception were indoors, it was wonderful to be able to take advantage of the performing arts complex for photos of the bride and groom, the wedding party, and the family, especially in January! And it was still nice enough after dinner to take a little tour of Larimer Square where we got some awesome images in front of the clock-tower, on Larimer street under the market lights, and inside a funky hat shop where the staff was more than accommodating and even played a wedding song that had us all cracking up.
I had a wonderful team of vendors to work with that I would like to thank. Julia Timmer, my production manager extraordinaire (and right hand gal), did an excellent job second shooting with me all day. Julie and I work together in perfect harmony and I always just love shooting with her! Heather Allen from Table 6 Productions, was the coordinator and she did an amazing job (as usual)! Thank you Heather for referring me to this darling couple. Flirt made all of the beautiful florals and centerpieces. Mulberries provided the delicious cake. And DJ Manos provided the rocking music for the dance party.
It was a small and intimate affair and I absolutely loved that we were able to get inside the theater to take a few photos as well. The starry “sky” (ceiling) in Kevin Taylor’s provided a wonderful ambiance for the reception and dancing and I was thrilled with how seamless everything went from start to finish. Gabby and Mike could not have been sweeter or easier to work with. I just loved photographing them and I loved that they were up for some photos later in the evening as well. It’s not every wedding where the bride and groom are willing to leave their party for a while for more photos and those images are some of my favorite from the day! And as for their guests, not only did they get to celebrate with Gabby and Mike on such a special occasion, but they also got a delicious meal at Kevin Taylor’s. I know because I ate one too. Thank you again to everyone that was involved in making this day so beautiful and FUN!
