I love working with my brides to create one of the most fabulous wedding presents for their grooms that I can think of. This little hottie was no exception! We decided to take her boudoir photos in her home in Denver to give it a little extra touch of personalization. It was a perfect choice, if I do say so myself, for this modern-chic bride-to-be. I had a lot of space to work with, cool exposed brick walls, a wooden staircase, a funky round chair, great light, and most importantly, a gorgeous and confident woman!
Boudoir photography is one of my favorite things to do! I love working with women and helping them see their own beauty. It’s like an adult version of the “dress up” games that I used to play at as a little girl with my sisters. First we lay out all of the outfit choices, the jewelry and shoes, and any other accessories that we are going to work with. Next we decide which order to do things in. And then comes the fun part. I generally start off by demonstrating the poses that I want the girls to imitate. Which is usually a pretty funny way to break the ice. I figure if they see me do what I’m telling them to do, and see me exaggerate the body positions that create the best and most flattering lines, it’s easier for them to understand what I’m going for when I ask for things like “throw your weight into your left hip,” “arch your upper back,” “push your butt out” “drop your right shoulder,” etc. I have found that a quick little practice session before I even get the camera out helps get things going. I generally stand in front of them and have them mimic my poses for a couple of minutes before I ever start shooting. It’s a great way to get them laughing & to show them that what I’m looking for is actually all pretty easy. That’s not to say that they won’t be a little sore the next day. But, hey, sometimes beauty is painfully achieved. Think about your favorite heels. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say they probably are NOT comfortable. But… they look hot, and you know it, so you are willing to suffer a little. Am I right?? Thought so.
I can’t wait for this gorgeous bride to give her handsome groom his present. I’m positive it’s going to be a major hit! Right. Out. Of. The. Park. 🙂
